Chalk DrawingFor the drawing unit I choose to use chalk pastels. I used the chalk to draw a sunset on the beach of Playa del Carmen Mexico. I believe that this drawing was successful because of how the colors stood out even though they were blended well. I enjoyed using the chalk and learned how to blend it on the paper. I also learned how chalk is very "free flowing" compared to other drawing materials.

Clay SlabOn my clay slab I carved a bird sitting a tree branch
with pine cones. During this unit I learned how to add and take away clay. Doing this adds contrast to the clay slab. I think that by slipping and scoring, carving, and painting, my clay slab turned out very successful. |
PaintingThis painting was of a sunset over a few mountains. i think that this painting was very successful. I also enjoyed this painting unit very much. Some of the thing I learned during this unit were different techniques on how to paint. I also learned how blending, contrast, and the
colors chosen were important to the overall painting. |
PrintmakingThis linoleum block was cut into a detailed tree with leaves. I believe that this was a successful piece of art work. I think that most of the details come through
during the print. During this unit I learned the different kinds of printmaking. I also learned about the process of block printing, and different techniques and skills for cutting the block. |
Artists Take A StandMy art poster is about having better education on what to do in the event of an emergency. More specifically my poster is about natural disasters as you can see with the tornado in the background. This poster shares this message by having the tornado destroying the area and the person having no clue what to do. The "in case of emergency go left" sign is added to show that not a lot of people are paying attention on how to handle situations such as the one in the poster.

Artists Solve Problems
An artist may choose to work with a limitation because of many reasons. Some of these reasons could be that they don't have the supplies available or they would like to make their art different from other pieces of art. Working with a limitation requires the artist to think outside the box and to use unconventional art materials. Doing this can change the art making process because the artists are working in an unfamiliar way. This can also change the way that people view the art because instead of looking for perfection they are looking at the creativity.
Elements of Art
DesignI researched images to base my art work off of. I then experimented with different shading techniques and practiced different ways to make a drawn image appear 3D. After that I sketched/ practiced the outline of my rose.
|
In this piece of art I focused on the element of art, value. I used this element of art by shading different areas of the rose differently. I used value to add a 3D effect to the drawing. Other elements of art that were incorporated in this piece were space and texture. These elements can be found in the petals and in the different intensity of the colors in the rose.

Final Portfolio

Sunset on the Ocean

In my final portfolio I used different types of media to create 3 different pieces of artwork. The theme that I chose was a beach theme. I selected this theme because there are many different scenes and objects that can be found at the beach. The different things that I chose to replicate are all made to look realistic. Although the 3 pieces of art are all of different things, they should flow together and each represent a part of the beach.
Each piece of artwork was made using a different type of media. I used acrylic paint for the sunset painting, chalk pastel for the wave drawing, and pencil for the starfish drawing. I chose these types of media partly because during the experimental stages, these were the tools that I enjoyed using the most. I also chose these materials because I thought that they would work the best for art I had planned on making. I think that each piece challenged me to continue and use what I had already learned and improve in that area.
I am very happy about my final artworks and I think that they each turned out pretty well. I enjoyed being able to continue working on 2-dimensional art, which is what I enjoy the most. I especially enjoyed getting to make another value drawing of the starfish. These pieces show what I have learned over the course of this class and the ways I have grown as an artist. Overall I really like how these pieces have turned out.
