Assessment Project
In this project, we drew four different scenes or objects from memory. The four drawings consisted of a tree in a landscape, a realistic hand, a street scene, and an animal in an environment. During this activity we showed are ability to effectively shade an object, create texture, use one point perspective, and use real life proportions.
Watercolor Techniques and Practice
In this assignment, we practiced watercolor techniques using different materials. We learned a total of nine techniques that we will use in future watercolor paintings. The techniques included wash, gradient, dry brush, wet on wet, salt, saran, resist, splatter, blot, and bleed.
|
In this assignment, we used the watercolor and blending techniques that we had learned previously. We painted 3 different color gradients and used the shading above to paint 4 different 3D shapes.

Critique Questions
- I think that my painting is very neat and was well executed. Even though I represented Hundertwassers style by not using straight lines and using repetition of patterns, the different sections in the painting are clean and are very contrast. Overall, I think that paintings sections, colors, and patterns fit well together.
- My work embodies Hundertwassers style by using many patterns, no straight lines, and by making my painting 2 dimensional. I also focused on making every areas of my painting grow outward from the center spiral. Every area of my painting connects with each other through the patterns and the outward direction.
- Most areas of my painting use adjacent colors to compliment each other. I also focused on making the night and day scene by using darker colors on the bottom and light colors on the top.
- I think that the focal point in my painting is the border. I think that the bright pink allows for a bright contrast against some of the darker colors in the background. Your eye is drawn to the border that flows throughout the entire painting.
- Patterns are very prevalent in my painting. Some of the patterns create texture such as the half moons used to show clouds and the lines used in the moon. Other horizontal patterns work to draw your eye out such as the spiral in the center.
- My border continues throughout the center of the painting and all around the sides. I believe that it greatly enhances the painting because of the color. The border also uses more repeating patterns.
- This painting challenged me to use lines that were not straight and to not add depth. I had to consciously remember to reflect Hundertwassser style through unconventional lines and lack of depth.
Oil Practice Paintings
During this assignment we practiced different techniques using oil paint. On the left I used a palette knife and on the right I used brushes to paint the apple. While using oil paint on this painting I focused on planning out my colors to avoid over blending and also on where my highlights and shadows needed to be.
